Due to the formation of new archaeology in the past few decades, one of the most important branches to which it was linked to is Archaeobotany science. In Iran, due to the lack of attention to it, its name is still unknown to many people. Fortunately, a lot of attention has been paid to it recently and researches have been conducted in this field that have provided us with very useful information. The importance of this science in is answering questions such as: whether the plant is native or imported, what was the purpose of usage plants in the enclosure (fuel, food, building materials, medicine, animals forage, paint, making objects such as mats and baskets), when people domesticated the plants, which plants were domesticated, what were the livelihood strategies were, what the economies of plants in past societies were, the methods of gain of cereals, the human’s role in the environment and what was the role of environment in human cultural development, Which plant was wasted and which were cultivated more. In order to work in this field, it is necessary that people to get acquainted with the plant and its basic principles. The purpose of writing this article is to get familiar with plants, Botany, Archaeobotany, Paleobotany, different branches of Archaeobotany, ways of preserving plant remains in ancient sites.
